MEKONG PARTNERS / PRACTICAL TOOL / STARTING A CONVERSATION

Prepare your project brief

A useful first conversation starts with a clear question. Organise the objective, evidence and next management decision before discussing the scope of an engagement.

A working sheet—not a submission form

Your notes stay in this browser. Print or save them before leaving; they are not sent to Mekong Partners.

Make your brief usable in the first meeting

Write a decision, not a broad ambition
“Compare a distributor pilot with our own sales presence” is easier to scope than “help us enter Asia”. Name the commitment management is preparing to make and the alternatives still under consideration.
Separate facts from assumptions
List what you know, where it came from and what remains uncertain. Include the existing material you can share after an appropriate confidentiality arrangement, but do not place sensitive information in this public worksheet.
Define the output and decision date
Explain who will use the work, when the decision is needed and what a useful deliverable would look like. Save or print your notes locally; use the separate contact form when you are ready to start a conversation.

WORKING SHEET

Prepare a concise, decision-focused brief.

Use the fields below for your own preparation, then print or save the page through your browser. The text is not sent to Mekong Partners or saved as a submission. Avoid entering confidential documents or sensitive personal information.

FOCUS THE DISCUSSION

Start with what the engagement needs to resolve.

You do not need to prepare a complete business plan before contacting us. A short brief can make the conversation more useful by separating the business ambition from the immediate decision, the evidence already available and the assumptions that remain open.

The objective

Describe the commercial or operating outcome you are pursuing. Explain the market, activity and reason for considering it.

The decision

Name the choice management needs to make. Identify alternatives and the evidence that would change the preferred option.

The practical scope

Set out timing, constraints, resources and the output that would help. Note the specialist questions without trying to resolve all of them in advance.

WHAT WE WOULD DISCUSS

Agree the question before agreeing the work.

  1. Clarify the objective and decision stage.Distinguish exploration, validation, investment preparation and implementation.
  2. Review the available evidence.Identify what can be reused, what needs challenge and what information must be obtained.
  3. Identify the appropriate workstreams.Separate advisory, research, coordination and specialist requirements, with clear responsibilities.
  4. Discuss a proportionate scope.Define the intended outputs, dependencies and next steps before a mandate is agreed.

The worksheet does not create an engagement or submit a request. When you are ready, use the existing contact form to send a short, non-confidential summary.
